Pennsylvania needs this bill.
The new Voter Confidence and
Increased Accessibility Act will provide funding for the remaining
50 Pennsylvania counties (now using paperless touchscreen and
pushbutton Direct Record Electronic machines known as DREs) to
replace them with a modern optical scan system featuring voter-marked
and voter-verified paper ballots and accessible ballot markers
for people with disabilities. There is also funding in the bill
for audits of our elections, and audits are essential for us
to know that our votes are being counted accurately as cast.
Pennsylvania needs this bill.
Without Rep. Holt's new federal
bill, in all probability our state will face the 2010 midterms
and 2012 presidential election with over 7 million of our citizens
again voting on insecure, unverifiable, paperless DRE voting
machines. And Pennsylvania is unlikely to be able improve or
replace our voting systems in the foreseeable future because
our state and county budgets are so strapped right now. Worse
yet, these DRE machines have a rather short lifespan and in the
next few years many of the touchscreens placed into service in
2006 will need to be replaced. Without the federal funds Rep.
Holt's bill provides to improve this situation, future elections
in Pennsylvania may suffer.
PENNSYLVANIA NEEDS THIS BILL.

for is our right to vote in fair and accurate elections. Please
